Cooroy is the Noosa hinterland's bigger working town, with the old butter factory turned arts centre in the main street, acreage in every direction, and Lake Macdonald just to the north. A lot of Cooroy's container demand comes from renovations and builds. Owners need somewhere secure for furniture while the house is gutted, and builders need a lockable site store for tools and materials.
Workshop space is the other big use. Acreage owners around Black Mountain, Ridgewood and Tinbeerwah often want a workshop or hobby space without the time and approvals a shed build can involve, and a container is a fast, lockable start.
Cooroy's hills are the main delivery challenge. Driveways off the ridgelines can be steep, with tight turns and retaining walls, and the flat spot on the block is often limited. A tilt-tray needs a firm, reasonably level spot and a straight run to tip a container. On a steep block a crane truck may be needed to lift it into place.
In town the streets are narrower and busier, with overhead wires and street trees to watch. Photos from the road looking in, and from the drop spot looking out, are the fastest way to get an exact answer on which truck the job needs.
Cooroy is in Noosa Shire. A container used as temporary storage during a build is usually the simple end of the council conversation, but a permanent container, one that has been modified with windows, doors or a roof over it, or one used as a room, can trigger planning or building rules. Overlays on your particular lot matter.
Ring Noosa Shire with your lot and plan number before you plan anything more than storage. It's quicker than guessing, and it's free.
For a renovation, a 20ft holds the contents of a typical three-bedroom house and travels on a tilt-tray. For a workshop, a high cube is worth it for the headroom. Our workshop guide covers orientation, airflow and power. A 40ft needs room for a sidelifter, which many Cooroy blocks don't have.
Acreage builds around Lake Macdonald, Black Mountain and Ridgewood usually run for months, and a container on site becomes the builder's store and the owner's storage at the same time. Getting the placement right at the start saves moving it later. Put it where the concrete truck, the frame delivery and the scaffold won't need to go, but close enough that materials aren't carried a long way.
Keep it clear of where the septic, the water tanks, the driveway and the power trench will run, and on ground that won't be dug up or regraded. Agree with the builder who holds the keys. If you plan to keep the container afterwards as a workshop, choose its final position now and place it there, so it doesn't have to be moved once the landscaping is done.
Renovations and builds usually hire. Hire units go out cargo-worthy, wind and watertight, and go back when the house is finished. A workshop or long-term store is usually bought. Buy a cargo-worthy unit, sold wind and watertight. As-is units are sold as seen and not sold watertight, so they're not for furniture, tools or anything you'll line.
Freight is quoted with the container, including any crane lift, and the delivery day is confirmed when you order.
Often. Steep sites may need a crane truck instead of a tilt-tray. Send photos of the driveway and the spot and we'll include the right truck in the quote.
Yes. A 20ft holds a typical three-bedroom house's contents, and hire units go out cargo-worthy, wind and watertight.
Temporary storage is usually simple, but permanent, modified or habitable containers may need approval. Check with Noosa Shire for your lot.
A high cube, for the headroom. Face it for afternoon shade, ventilate it, and have power run by a licensed electrician.
